That very character from 7UP! Fido Dido

Due to the IP holder needing to communicate overseas, the approval for ‘Fido Dido’ may take some time.

There’s a cute boy character with lightning-struck hair. He was born by chance on a restaurant napkin in New York in 1985. Cartoonist Susan Rose doodled him, and creator Joanna Ferrone came up with his name. That name was “Fido Dido.” The character was, in essence, a collaboration between the two. They started by selling T-shirts with the character on them, which became a huge hit. This led to a formal contract with a professional company to manage the character, turning it into a commercial success.

Above all, his destiny changed when he met 7UP (Pepsi’s carbonated beverage brand). Fido Dido made his debut as the main character in TV commercials and quickly gained global popularity. He played the biggest role in increasing 7UP’s brand awareness and enjoyed his golden age for about 4 to 5 years starting in 1990.

However, after his heyday, 7UP disappeared from some Asian markets, and the character also seemed to fade from view. But recently, Fido Dido made a comeback through a reunion with 7UP in Egypt, becoming the face of a global campaign. It was a perfect match to celebrate the 90th anniversary of 7UP’s legacy. Once again, it became clear that Fido Dido and the 7UP brand are a perfect pair.

In March 2019, Fido Dido returned with his signature playful and quirky vibe—just like the lemon-lime taste of 7UP—still sporting that lightning-bolt hairstyle. Although he didn’t achieve the same level of popularity as in the 1990s, he successfully sparked nostalgia among the public.
