Kim Dong Suk suffered from polio at the age of three, which left him with a disability in his legs. After barely graduating from elementary school and doing sedentary farming and housework, she was carried around on her younger brother's back. She wanted to continue her studies, but due to her difficult circumstances and physical condition, she could no longer attend school. Then, when she was seventeen, she had big dreams and she moved to Seoul. She had two leg surgeries and by the time she was eighteen, she was standing on the ground with both legs for the first time in her life, relying on braces. , I was able to walk around wherever I wanted to go.
When she was 20 years old, she wanted to study and prepared for her GED. She completed middle school in six months and qualified for college entrance exam in a year and a half. Afterwards, at the age of twenty-seven, she entered art college, where she majored in Western painting, and began to realize her dream of becoming a full-fledged painter. In graduate school, she painted symbolic works that personified her tools, and she After graduating from graduate school, in 1988, she went to study abroad in Paris, France.
At the time, she realized her own shortcomings while looking at the works of the masters at the Louvre, which was embellishing the history of Western art, and put aside her previous works in mind and received the Académie Grande Chaumiy for her creative work. She painted nudes in Erre, and her work included Parisian landscapes and still lifes. When she returned home after 10 years of studying abroad, she held several invited exhibitions. She currently pursues her religious life and works as a member of the Sarang Church Art Mission, Hieroglyphics, and the Korean Art Association.
She expresses the ‘inner world + dream world + reality experience + beauty of nature’ that comes from her life experience and faith experience through her creations.
Once a month, she collects recycled and used clothes, washes them clean, and visits the ‘House of Love Shelter (Sangil-dong/House for the Severely Disabled)’. She says she can understand the people at the shelter well because she also has a disability. She says her disability is not a mountain she can never climb. She hopes that everyone can live a precious life that only lasts once, a life where one does their best in what they want to do, and a life with no regrets.
She said, “Just as a beautiful rose has thorns, so too does our life have beauty, ugliness, and difficulties. Sometimes human weaknesses can be of great help in achieving success in life. “For me, disability is no longer a weakness, but a strength, and I believe it is a precious thorn that allows me to show love and God’s grace.”

°Author's Note: [ My work is mainly about a reelity of daly life in nature and a beauty of nature, my inner world tacing the reality and dream-based emotions with various colors on canvas, I have been feeling the weakness of the body for many year and I started to organize my works, I tried to recreate old works that I had painted in Paris and Korea through cloverloaves and butterfies, This is why cloverleaves and butterflies are used as mediators of recreation
When I see the three cloverleaves on the roadside among the grasses, it's like projecting my fife, It is because of the positive meanings of life that cloverleaves have, The first leaf of the clover is hope, the second leaf is love, the third leaf is happiness, and the fourth leaf means fortune (miracle), Are there values that make life richer than love, hope and happiness, I didn't want to miss these wonderful objects in my work because there was added the fourth leaf (miracle), Butterily is a mediator that brings re the nostalgia and the strength and the power of lfe.
Paris, where I lived, there iS a place where I cannot g0 easily even ff want to go agan So, i#t gives me more nostalgia, With its weak wings, buttorfly can fly freely, 1 put the nostalgia in its lying. It is not only about nostalgia, but also the meaning of 'butterfly effect., Like the butterfly effect" that can be the beginning of a strong and powerful power, the butterfly in my work is also weak, but strong at the same time,
The energy of drawing such vitalitly and power has been leading my ife, 1 hoped for a "strongest trom the fraily" to draw buttertlies on the works, For those who live as painters, the works are their children and their pride, To make a work authentic complete, Love, sincerity, sacrifice, pain and abstinence as well as raising children, and patience time are required, Ilf 1 were more perfect and better than 1 am now, perhaps I would have lived without any resistance, However, because of the thorn of the bodly, it became the git of a mysterious blessing that can express intangible inner surface in beautiful cclor on the canvas, I thank you that suffering has been given to my life tor good, 1 pray that my work and life wil be used as a good tool for good works.
Through this exhibition, 1 am pleased to show you the new re-energies from 'soft to strong' through "the beautiful meaning of four-leaf clover' and 'butterfly elfect", I hope that everyone who watches the work wil be able to experience 'peace and rest", "heaing and restoration', and 'miracles and hope' such as hope, love, happiness, and good fortune, And in our everyday lie, we pray for the sincere prayer that 'precious Hie"', which is only once, is beautituly crealed as a more rewarding and meaningful 'happy ife'.
I can do allthis through him who gives me strength, |Philippians 4:13|
