Beyond, Beyond That...
I am creating works that shape the flow of time or water into waves, communicating through my art.
After undergoing surgery for osteosarcoma and becoming physically disabled, art has become a joyful and meaningful pursuit for me. Starting with my unique drawing tool, pencil sketches, I have explored various materials like watercolor, acrylics with mediums, and oil paints, without limiting myself. My techniques also range from brush painting to dripping, pouring, and collage. I simultaneously work on diverse themes and styles. Having begun art later in life, after turning 50, I do not confine myself to any particular method or form, working from figurative to abstract. I find inspiration in the multifaceted approach of German artist Gerhard Richter, who characterizes modern art with simultaneity and fragmentation.
I frequently paint the sea, the mother and nest of all life. Swimming, a significant part of my daily life, brings me a sense of peace and freedom like no other. This comfort transforms into affection, and I portray the sea and water, which always waits for us, through various techniques. At times, I add butterflies as a medium for dreams.
While painting water, I began thinking about the concept of flow. Water remains fresh because it flows. Everyone wants to take control of their life, but few live as they wish. Our lives also transform, grow, and mature through changes. Sometimes we experience severe conflicts and hardships, but I believe that living in harmony with the flow, like water, brings peace even in our complicated and tiring lives. The mountains and sky we see around us are also natural expressions of life's flow. Through painting, I show the passing of time and consciousness, utilizing the natural flow of paint, just as nature demonstrates the changes of a single day or a year through the seasons.
Jeong-Yeon Moon is a Western-style painter whose work revolves around the theme of "flow." She began her artistic journey after becoming physically disabled following osteosarcoma surgery at the age of 50. In her youth, she studied education, but later found joy in drawing and eventually pursued art as her major.
She is currently an active member of the Korea Fine Arts Association, the Korea Disabled Artists Association, the Arts Council Korea, and the Gangnam Fine Art Association.
Since 2019, she has won numerous awards, including at the Mokwoohoe Figurative Art Festival, the Gwanak Art Exhibition, the Disabled Art Exhibition, and the JW Art Awards.
